Paint & Fiberglass

We have extensive experience in fiberglass repair, vacuum bagging, structural and cosmetic repairs. On one of our more serious repairs, we removed a 4 x 7 foot and 3 x 4 foot section of bottom out of a J-130 that was seriously delaminated and when we pulled the section of bottom off, water actually poured out. It was quite a feat to get a 5 foot x 8 foot wetted piece of fiberglass airborne upside down and stuck to the bottom long enough to get the vacuum bag in place and drawing.

We ended the project by putting a racing bottom on the boat. It came out perfect and the repairs are completely undetectable.

We have faired and painted several boats using various coatings from Imron to Awlgrip and the secret to all of the projects was patience and preparation.

Coatings - we are a certified applicator of Pettit paints. And with the environment always in everyone’s conscience, Pettit is a natural, leading the way in copper free paints. Ultima Econaia and Hydrocoat Econaia's active ingredient is Econaia which is in the zinc family. 6% Econaia equates to 60% copper. It is truly revolutionary.

The most important thing to remember about any paint is preparation as I mentioned above. It is key to make sure the surface you are painting is clean and free of all loose paint and debris. Sanding is the most important step in preparing the bottom for new paint, if you have a good coat of paint, then you will only have to rough up the paint and get some teeth in it. If the bottom is in bad shape, it will be important to sand everything away.
